Reflection

Experience: When I think back on this module, the first thing that comes to mind is the significant challenge that it presented for me. I sincerely hoped for better performance and a more conscientious effort on my part. This module proved to be significantly more difficult than I expected. Although I encountered unfamiliar concepts, it provided a platform for me to learn a variety of new skills and engage with new people, I was lucky to have talented classmates who could help me evaluate my work and critique them as self-evaluation does not do it for me sometimes.

Observation: I noticed that this time in Typography it involves a very meticulous process and requires a lot of practice. Before beginning the design process, I realised how important it was to gather keywords or research materials. This method ensures that information rather than intuition guides us through the design process. To summarise, the module taught me the importance of staying up to date on the latest trends and consuming a significant amount of design-related content through observing and researching to improve my skills.

Findings: I've come to recognize that, as an undergraduate, striving for complete originality may not be the most realistic expectation. Despite numerous attempts to do so, I find myself drawn to exploring unconventional ideas, often leading to overcomplication of my work and creative blocks. While grappling with this challenge, I've discovered that extensive reading and observing the work of other designers have been instrumental in my improvement. I've learned that design is built on a foundation of practice, imitation, and intuition. Understanding that originality is a journey and not an immediate starting point has been a valuable lesson for me.
