The Words We Never Said is a heartfelt story about two sisters—a younger sibling, introspective and uncertain, and her older sister, Alissa, who’s protective and nurturing. Set against the backdrop of their shared family history and personal growth, the story explores the complexities of sibling relationships, revealing the quiet, unspoken bond between them. The younger sibling struggles with self-doubt and feeling inadequate, looking to Alissa for strength and as an example of perseverance. Though Alissa seems to have it all together, the younger sister learns that their connection runs deeper than expected. In moments of vulnerability, the two sisters find comfort in each other’s presence, even when they can't find the right words. As the younger sibling reflects on their relationship, she comes to understand how it shaped her sense of self—from once feeling like an outsider in Alissa’s confident shadow, to realizing that their love and understanding go beyond words. The story builds to a powerful realization: true connection isn’t always spoken—it’s felt in silent gestures, shared moments of comfort, and constant support, whether near or far. In the end, The Words We Never Said is a story about growth, self-discovery, and the deep bond between siblings that remains unbroken, even in the silence.

Reflection

Experience: My experience throughout the weeks has been filled with ups and downs. It has been a journey of perseverance and self-discovery. Reflecting on the past year, I realize how personal challenges have shaped my academic and creative process. Losing two loved ones last year was very difficult, and balancing grief with my studies was a constant struggle. Emotions often clouded my motivation and creative ability, leaving me feeling gloomy and disconnected at times. However, I did not want to give the bare minimum, so I resolved to give my best effort, even on the hardest days. Throughout this period, I immersed myself in learning the technicalities of publication, such as margins, alignments, and the nuances of design. These small but significant details opened my eyes to the discipline required in this field. Despite the emotional hurdles, I found a sense of purpose in honing these skills, and this persistence became a cornerstone of my growth.

Observation: From my observations, I have come to appreciate the transformative power of visuals in publications. A book with visuals becomes more than just a medium for words it actually becomes an engaging and immersive experience. Visuals add aesthetic value and deepen the reader’s understanding of the narrative, allowing them to connect with the author’s perspective on a more deeper, emotional level. This realization has reinforced my belief in the enduring importance of publication design. Even with everything moving toward digital, I really hope the beauty and feel of traditional publications stick around. They have a special way of connecting creators and audiences that’s hard to replace.

Findings: In my findings, I have discovered that successful publication design goes beyond technical precision. It is about storytelling, empathy, and creating an emotional resonance. By integrating visuals thoughtfully, I realized how design can act as a bridge, linking the reader’s emotions with the narrative. Additionally, I found that every element like typography, spacing, or imagery, carries weight and contributes to the overall impact of the publication. This process has taught me that good design is not just about aesthetic appeal, it is about intention and purpose, if that makes sense. As I move forward, I aim to explore how to strike a balance between form and function, ensuring that every design choice serves the content it represents. This expanded reflection provides a comprehensive overview of your experience while linking your personal growth with the technical and creative aspects of publication.
