Reflection

My journey from Task 1 to Task 4 has been one of the most interesting experiences in learning as a student. It was challenging, frustrating at times but also intensely rewarding. Each task developed my skills in different ways and helped me grow as a designer, and a thinker. Task 1, the draft dissertation, was an extension and development of idea from Design Research Methodology (DRM). I thought it would be easier because of what I already had done during DRM but I very quickly realized how much deeper some aspects would need to go like in particular, the discussion section. This was the part I found most challenging, I struggled to relate what I did with my survey data to theory and to actually make a proper argument. There were certainly times in the beginning when I felt as though I was stuck, and questioning whether my writing even made sense. Thankfully, I had weekly consultations, and encouragements from Ms. Jinchi, I slowly began to see how I could link my findings back to my research question and literature. By the time I was working on Task 2, the final dissertation, things started to fall together for me. It still wasn't easy, but I felt much more confident in the work. I reorganized the structure, improved flow, and learned how to write critically and clearly. Additionally, I learnt so much more about what makes a discussion strong. It's not just simply stating results but making meaning from results.

Next, Task 3, the flipbook, allowed me to shift my work to more visual and creative ways of working. I thoroughly enjoyed designing the layout and how I could make the content simpler and easier to digest, although I also learnt how important it is to think about readability, pacing and how visuals can support or distract from academic content. In summary, this whole process has taught me ideas of patience, clarity and how to ask for help when the it gets tough. I wish to especially thank Ms. Jinchi, for always being supportive, honest, and ultimately very helpful all the way through.
