PART 1: Photoshop on Shazam

1. Quick Selection Tool

2. Layer Mask

3. Filters

4. Color Correction

JOURNAL AND EDITING PROCESS:

We were required to learn how to use Photoshop by removing the background and selecting the object chosen. In this exercise, we had to use Shazam the superhero as our object that can be seen below:

Figure 1.0 Shazam Poster

From this poster, we are to select Shazam's Portrait and turn it into its own layer/object which will remove the poster background completely.

Figure 1.1 Background

This is the background that was provided by our lecturer and we have to ensure Shazam's layer to be included in this arena/mansion.

First Step:

The first step is to remove shazam from the poster using the Quick Selection Tool and copy and paste it into this background. Then, resize Shazam's layer depending on the suitable size to go along with making it look realistic.

Figure 1.2 Adjustment on Shazam Layer

Afterwards, I adjusted its setting from Vibrance, Saturation, Luminance (+82), Color Intensity (+96) and Fade (+56).
  1. Vibrance: Vibrancy is to enhance the colour of the image and gives stronger visibility
  2. Saturation: Saturation is normally to increase the dynamic of colour and visual
  3. Luminance: Luminance is to adjust the brightness of colour in an image
  4. Colour Intensity: This image gradient allows to change the mood of the image
  5. Fade: Fade refers to an image transition effect achieved by adjusting the image's intensity, where the first image gradually reduces intensity to the point of not being legible and the second image gradually rises in intensity to the point of legibility.

Figure 1.3 Shadow Layer

Next, I added the third layer which I renamed as (Shadow) by using the brush tool with the size of 10-14 and in black color

Figure 1.4 Shadow Layer with adjustment

The shadow layer is changed from 100% to 40% opacity, due to the fact the brush will look too awkward if it is been made to 100%.

Figure 1.4 Shazam Reflection Layer

Then, I added a fourth layer which renamed as (Reflection) and changed the height from (100) to (-100) to rotate and reflect the second shazam layer and place it into the pool/water. After that, I applied the Gaussian blur effect on the reflection layer along with colour matching or colour correction as well as opacity.
FINAL OUTCOME OF SHAZAM

PART 2: Photoshop on My Self Portrait
  1. A photo of my self-portrait
  2. Apply the same techniques used on Shazam in Part 1
  3. Replace Shazam's Layer on my self-portrait with a few adjustments depending on the posture
    of the object
  4. Apply suitable Color Correction on my self-portrait

Figure 1.5 Object Selection Tool

The first step is to remove my background by using the Quick Selection Tool and copy and paste it into the new background layer provided same as Shazam's. Then, resize my portrait layer. This is my second layer.

Figure 1.6 Shadow Effect (Brush) Layer

Shadow effect by the brush tool similarly to Figure 1.3 from Shazam's layer. However, with different direction of the shadow to follow my body shape, against the wall. This is also the third layer for this part. Other than that, I have also applied the same method in the adjustments of its setting from Vibrance, Saturation, Luminance, Color Intensity and Fade.

Figure 1.8 Adjustments of Shadow and Reflection Layer

The reflection seen here was used by the brush tool, with similar adjustments to the shazam's layer as well as the pen tool and path to cut out my feet for the reflection from the pool/water. Opacity percentages: Shadow (40%) Reflection (38%)
