Self Tilted Project

In my understanding, the phrase "self-titled photograph" describes an image in which the photographer is the main subject. It is a self-portrait or an image in which the main subject is the photographer themself. A play on words, "self-titled" mixes the notion of a self-portrait with the idea of a title normally connected to artistic works. Through their own image, the photographer can represent their identity, point of view, or aesthetic vision in the self-titled photograph. It can be a means for the photographer to experiment with self-expression, to communicate their own feelings, or to make a statement about who they are or the world they live in.

Notes: My biography: My name is Adrianna Sofea, turning 20 years old this year and I am from Bachelor of Design in Creative Media, a student at Taylor’s University.

My interest in design began at the age of fifteen, when I was captivated by my art teacher's engaging stories and the appeal of design. I gained a strong interest in technology-related design, particularly digital graphics and UI/UX. Exploring technologies such as Adobe Creative Suite and prototype tools opened up a world of creative possibilities. I enjoyed the challenge of translating customer requirements into intuitive solutions that combined beauty, usability, and efficiency.

Aside from UI/UX, I wanted to experiment with augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and mixed reality (MR), pushing the boundaries of immersive design. Seeking mentors and working with experts in the field helped me to better understand design principles and new trends. In the future, I hope to make a difference in the area by embracing innovation and developing memorable experiences in wearable devices, IoT interfaces, and AI-driven solutions.

In the end, I want to significantly touch people's lives through smart design, improved user experiences, and establishing relationships with the digital world. My goal with each initiative is to empower users and enrich their lives. As a curious designer, I am excited to explore new horizons, master emerging technologies, and leave an indelible mark on the ever-changing design world.

I have an intense appreciation for graphic design, UI/UX, and the art of attracting people's attention while improving user experiences, and I have a keen eye for detail, a patient demeanour, and a penchant for observation. My love is creating designs that not only captivate and engage people, but also streamline interactions to make things as simple as possible for them.

First Phase:
Visual Reference

Notes:

For this assignment, I began by conducting visual research on self-tilted executions to discover the contents or progression I should consider taking before proceeding in stages, taking notes, and watching YouTube videos.

As stated by the title, we were tasked with using our own photo in the "self-titled" project. Typically, I gravitate towards capturing landscapes or scenic sights because they inspire awe and make me realise how insignificant I am in the larger picture of things. As a result, I performed an extensive study to discover how I might effectively merge a photo of myself with beautiful scenery, with the goal of emphasising my ongoing effort to remain humble and embrace a broad, open-minded outlook.

Second Phase
Sketching Ideation

Figure 1.6 Two options for main object on the poster

Notes: Initially, I considered a close-up image of myself in an Italian restaurant, with the intention of including elements such as water to represent nature. However, I believed that the intended message might be difficult to express. As a result, I went with my second option, which was to choose a photo of myself from the Hari Raya celebration. This shot looked appropriate because of the lighting, perspective, and the fact that I was located on the outskirts, offering a proportionate setting for later cropping. A few mountains in the foreground also helped to balance the overall composition.

At last, I continued with my second idea and reviewed them to my lecturer for feedback and improvisations.

Final Outcome
Artist Statement: The use of the liquid element serves as a symbol for humans because our bodies are primarily made of water, even though everyone may not understand the intended message. Additionally, the idea that stars are made up of minuscule dust particles emphasises how insignificant our existence is in the big scheme of things. This awareness serves as a constant reminder to be humble no matter what the situation because I am merely one component of the great whole. Although the composition of the breathtaking nature may seem ordinary to some, it has enormous personal value for me because I have a propensity for photographing vast landscapes and towering mountains.

Reflection

This assignment posed a significant challenge for me. Animation requires dedicated practice and extensive research, and my difficulty in multitasking with other modules made it even more difficult to realize my initial ideas. However, despite the limited time and practical constraints, I managed to create a self-portrait animation with a subtle story. This experience taught me valuable lessons and ignited a passion to explore animation further, refining my skills using tools like Adobe After Effects.
