Reflection

Experience: From my experience in this module, I have noticed a substantial and novel change in my work habits. It has significantly changed the way I approach the assignments I've been given, making me more mindful, proactive, and consistently effective. Without falling into the old procrastination trap that has plagued me in the past, I have discovered that I am making significant progress on the tasks I have been given. Furthermore, I have delved into the technical aspects of typography through the utilization of software tools such as Adobe Illustrator and Adobe InDesign. It has been essential for me to understand which tools are most suitable for curving or smoothening out my type, as well as effectively kerning the texts. This hands-on exploration has not only enhanced my technical proficiency but also allowed me to gain a greater appreciation for the artistry and precision required in creating visually appealing typography.

Observations: Based on my observations, this module emphasizes the importance of extensive reading and independent research, going beyond and not relying solely on lectures. I found myself engaging in research more frequently compared to my other subjects. This was necessary to gain a comprehensive understanding of various aspects, such as the proper development of typefaces, text formatting, and expression. I've grown more conscious of my surroundings, seeing and appreciating the numerous places that are all around me as I wander around a city or town, including billboards, TV advertisements, and other visual aspects. I can now appreciate the enormous amount of work and ingenuity that went into creating these designs, and I'm very happy to have the knowledge and comprehension of these things.

Findings: I discovered that the typeface used has a big impact on a design's tone, readability, and overall aesthetic appeal. Selecting the appropriate typeface is essential to effectively deliver the intended message since different typefaces communicate different emotions and meanings. Also, by paying attention to the letter spacing and kerning, I discovered that changing the kerning, the distance between individual letters, and total letter spacing may significantly affect the legibility and aesthetic balance of typography. I was able to produce language that is visually pleasing and visually balanced by fine-tuning these features. I learned how important it is to create a distinct typographic hierarchy in order to direct the reader's attention and prioritise content. I was able to establish a visual hierarchy that highlighted important details and made it simpler for readers to consume information by employing different font sizes, weights, and styles.
